About this course
The Quality Lab is a dynamic series of workshops that creates a collaborative learning space for academic and professional services teams across the sector. It’s a place to come together, explore practice through a quality lens, and engage in meaningful dialogue with peers who share a commitment to high standards and student success.
Step into Quality is part of our Quality Lab series of training courses, and provides an introduction to the key concepts of academic quality and standards of higher education in the UK.
The workshop will cover:
- what academic quality and standards are and why they matter
- some of the main terminology
- who’s who in the sector
- resources that support key processes.
Each session is grounded in the principles of quality assurance and continuous enhancement, offering a supportive environment where reflection, innovation, and shared learning thrive.
Who is this training for?
This course is suitable for anyone new to higher education, with no prior knowledge of the sector. It can be used as a standalone session for non-specialists or as a starting point from which those with a greater interest in the management of academic quality and standards can build through engagement with our other courses.
The course will focus on UK Quality and Standards, but may be of interest to some international colleagues.

What is the commitment for this course?
Participants must be available for the full duration of this two-hour workshop.
There is no requirement for pre-reading or preparation for this workshop.
